Merger law not fit for purpose: ACCC Chair

In a speech to the National Press Club, ACCC Chair, Gina Cass-Gottlieb, has claimed that Australia’s current merger regime is not well placed to deal with current and emerging issues in the economy. Cass-Gottlieb is critical both of the process (highlighting the challenges of the voluntary informal regime) and the law itself (the forward-looking nature of merger law leading to a permissive approach to mergers).
